Deceased actor, Anton Yelchin, who featured as Checkov in the last Star Trek epic, is being lined up to play a sheet of paper in Captain Kirk’s famous log in the new version of the sci-fi epic.
Yelchin, who flattened himself with his own car last week, will appear briefly with Kirk as The Enterprise skipper completes his daily account of a day spent battling Martians and suchlike.
A spokesman for the producers told us: “Anton was already as flat as a pancake after running himself over, so what better tribute to him than to play a page in the captain’s log. At the end of the day, it’s the least we could do to squeeze a few extra bucks out of the public.”
Critics of the move, however, see it as a cynical marketing ploy.
Film critic, Mark Kermode, said last night. “It’s absolutely outrageous. It’s like digging up Mr Spock and using his big-eared head to depict the FA Cup in a film about football.”
