2014 has been an extraordinary year for Dafty News, made more so by the outstanding contributions of our readers, column contributors, and those who have shown us amazing support.
To mark this special occasion we are pleased to announce our Dafty News People of the Year Award for 2014 - split into various categories.
Video Series of the Year Winner: Ariel Kashanchi
American comedian Ariel Kashanchi’s brilliant Don’t be Whore web series is packed with great on-the-sofa interviews and street chat. The hilarious stand-up comedy beauty from across the pond launched her brand new series this year and has become a firm favourite with our readers and Dafty fans. Don’t be Whore is a guest sit-down chat about anything and everything from relationship advice and sex tips that takes in outdoor location interaction with everyday people.
Meme of the Year Winner: StuWho?
Scots comedian StuWho? tops the meme charts for 2014 with his stunning The War Never Stops It Only Changes Venue range of truthful and reality information-in-a-box. The powerful and politically-enlightening lyrical and graphical messages informs and educates and is expertly packaged with high level art work. The perfect visuals that makes you think.
Young Person of the Year Winner: Emma Sutherland
Edinburgh schoolgirl Emma Sutherland is way too young to see some of the Dafty News content but she is a well-deserved winner of our coveted Young persons’ Award. Emma wrote a book about breast cancer awareness that has seen the young student appear on breakfast TV, featured in top-selling newspapers and has picked up a Young Scot Award. Not bad for a 14-year-old girl and very awe-inspiring for the way she has carried so much weight on such young and fragile shoulders. But, she packs a punch and her achievements are testimony to that.
Comment Contributor of the Year Winner: Sylvia Hitchen
Sylvia Hitchen from England picks up our award for both best comments and replies to our Facebook posts and for her topping the consistency level of comment contribution. Dafty News editor said of the new award: “Interaction with your audience is paramount. We make a point of replying to as many emails, comments and replies as possible. Our readers take the time to post so it is natural to take the time too and return a comment. Sylvia has by far been our most consistent and funny contributor to our social network platform and she rightly deserves this award.”
Most Voted Person of the Year Winner: Graham Barrie
Another comedian picks up what we feel is the most valuable award: Most Voted Person Award. This year’s award goes to a third comedian on the awards bill in Scottish comedian and comedy event organizer Graham Barrie. Graham has worked tirelessly in promoting and adding extra value to the comedy scene in Scotland. Our editor said: “Graham Barrie has given more into comedy than what he has taken out and that in itself tells you how well-liked and respected he is. That in itself goes to show why so many people like and rate him so highly and we can think of no better person to pick up this year’s Most Voted Person Award.”
Support and Influence of the Year Winner:
There is no question we receive lots of support from people from all walks of life but when a lot of that support comes from a prominent radio presenter of the highest calibre you know you are on the right track. Radio Clyde’s Jim Symon has been a huge help and support to our newsmag and the time that Jim has taken to mention us on his popular evening show has been extremely humbling to say the least. Dafty News are avid listeners to Jim’s Late Show on Clyde 2 and many occasions he has set time aside to read out some of our content and has been a huge influence too for our team.
Outstanding Writer Award Winner: Arlene Hayes
Arlene Hayes is one of the finest novelists you are likely to find anywhere. Luckily for Dafty News she has her own column, Author’s Notepad, on our newsmag and delivers supremely-written content you’d expect from a writer of such a high level. Arlene provides the reader with an in depth look at life as an author. She is also the author of the incredible Conflict Series. A highly, highly recommended four-part series. Arlene is an author of exceptional quality and thoroughly deserves this year’s title.
Dafty News would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has contributed and supported us this year. It goes without saying that our newsmag would not be possible without you. You are the reason we are Dafty News.
