Furious writers of political satire are planning a mass rally in London later today to protest against the resignation yesterday of White House press secretary, Sean Spicer.
The organiser of what is being called, a satirist’s ‘day of rage’, Toby Dell, 45, told us: “I was absolutely shaken to the core when I heard that Spicer had quit.
“I feel as if a huge part of me has been ripped away, to be honest. Some of my best copy has been devoted to lampooning this chump and then he goes and does this.
“I’ve been in touch with a number of friends in the world of wry satirical humour and cheap shots, and they’re all in agreement that this is a very dark day indeed for the genre”
The rally will begin in Hyde Park at 11.00am and will be followed by a march to the American Embassy in Grosvenor Square, Westminster, where protesters will hold a silent candlelit vigil and throw bricks at the windows.
