A FACEBOOK user was slammed this morning after having the audacity to change his profile pic to the Iranian flag to honour the 540 people who died in Sunday’s devastating quake near the Iraqi border, it has emerged.
The user wanted to express his sadness at the tragic loss of hundreds of lives and to pray for the 8,000 injured. He changed his profile pic from his two-year-old daughter tugging the tail of the family pet Jack Russell to the Iran flag but was bombarded with an onslaught of attacks.
One Facebook user raged: “How dare he upload the Iranian flag as his profile pic. Everybody knows you only do that when nice middle-class white people get caught up in a tragedy.”
It is estimated at least 95% of the British public didn’t know about the earthquake until this morning after pressure was put on mainstream media outlets to show fairness in news stories with #IranLivesMatter hashtags flooding news corporation offices and twitter accounts.
Many online complained they had struggled to source the flag of Iran, prompting a flurry of improvisations.
One Facebook user said: “I couldn’t find the Iranian flag as they don’t seem to be readily available online so I just snatched the Italy flag and turned it on its side.”
It’s not the first time a Facebook user has suffered because they changed their profile pic.
In 2014 a single mum-of-eight was slaughtered for changing her profile pic to a Nigerian flag after a plane crashed killing 268 Nigerian nationals. Two Brits on board also died but the single mother Facebook user hadn’t thought to use the Union Jack to pay tribute to those who died in the crash.
