A 27-year-old man from Whitechapel in East London has come unstuck after following The Metropolitan Police on the social media site, Twitter.
Toby Dell, unemployed, was arrested and charged with a number of burglaries in the local area, as well as Affray, Lewd Conduct and Taking and Driving Away.
A spokesperson for The Met told us: “We couldn’t believe our luck when chummy started following us. We’ve got 6 warrants out for his arrest and have been trying to feel his collar for over 2 years, so it was a very pleasant surprise when his name and face showed up on our feed. When I told some of the lads in the canteen about it they fell about, I don’t mind telling you”
This is the 2nd social media-related arrest in London in recent weeks. On the 1st of July, a suspected TV licence dodger from Shoreditch was shot in the back and wounded by armed officers as he left his home to pick up his washing from the laundry after he’d sent The Metropolitan Police Commissioner a friends request on Facebook.
